A Fish Called Wanda (1988)

A Fish Called Wanda is a fast-paced, darkly comic British caper set in London. Four very different crooks — suave mastermind Georges, his stuttering animal-loving sidekick Ken, the glamorous American con-woman Wanda, and her blustery, Nietzsche‑quoting “weapons expert” Otto — pull off a daylight diamond heist only to start double- and triple-crossing one another. When Georges is anonymously tipped to the police and jailed, Wanda seduces his straight‑laced barrister Archie Leach to extract the location of the hidden jewels, while Ken bungles repeated attempts to silence an elderly eyewitness. Chaos, jealousy and escalating incompetence ensue as loyalties collapse and everyone vies for the loot. What you’ll experience: razor‑sharp verbal banter, sight gags and farce mixed with criminal intrigue, and standout comic performances (notably a scene‑stealing, unpredictable Otto). The film blends British wit and physical comedy with a clever, twisty plot — expect plenty of laugh‑out‑loud moments, awkward seduction scenes, nervous energy, and a delightfully anarchic tone that turns a heist into a comedy of errors.
