Chhichhore (2019)

Chhichhore is a warm, bittersweet comedy-drama about friendship, failure and the pressure of expectations. After a tragic incident — his son Raghav’s suicide attempt following an exam setback — middle-aged Anirudh (Anni) is forced to revisit his college years. As he sits by his son’s bedside, Anni recounts the 1990s misadventures of his ragtag group of friends — Saxa, Mummy, Acid, Derek and Bevda — and how the “losers” they were labeled back then learned to face setbacks, find courage and build lives they could be proud of. Intercutting lively, nostalgic campus flashbacks with tense, emotional hospital scenes and the romance between Anni and Maya, the film mixes broad laughs, heartfelt moments and hard-hitting life lessons. Watching Chhichhore you’ll laugh at the college pranks and camaraderie, feel the sting of parental and academic pressure, and be moved by the film’s plea to redefine success and failure. It’s an uplifting, emotional ride about growing up, friendship and resilience — equal parts fun, nostalgia and sincere drama — that leaves you cheering for the underdogs and thinking about what it really means to be a “winner.”
