Chronicle (2012) — Action / Drama / Sci‑Fi Three high‑school friends—quiet, bullied Andrew Detmer, his easygoing cousin Matt, and their charismatic classmate Steve—stumble on a mysterious energy source in a forest tunnel and suddenly develop telekinetic powers. Andrew, who documents his life with a hand‑held camera to cope with an abusive, alcoholic father and a terminally ill mother, becomes the most powerful of the trio. What begins as daring stunts and adolescent bravado quickly spirals into moral conflict as Andrew’s pain and anger warp into something dangerous and uncontrollable while Matt struggles to rein him in. Shot largely from the characters’ point of view, Chronicle blends intimate, found‑footage immediacy with escalating, kinetic displays of superhuman ability. The film is equal parts character study and thriller: it traces a tragic descent fueled by trauma and envy, and stages intense, spectacular telekinetic set‑pieces without losing sight of the emotional stakes. If you watch this movie you’ll feel pulled between empathy and unease—immersed by the raw, handheld perspective, gripped by mounting suspense, and left with a disturbing, thought‑provoking take on power, responsibility and the darker sides of adolescence.
