Home Alone (1990)

Home Alone (1990) is a fast-paced, heartwarming holiday comedy about eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), who is accidentally left behind when his large family rushes off to Paris for Christmas. Thrilled at first to have the house to himself, Kevin delights in freedoms he’s never had — eating junk food, watching movies, and turning the house into his own playground. That fun turns into an adventurous battle of wits when two bungling burglars, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), target the McCallister home. Kevin responds by turning the house into a hilarious — and painfully ingenious — gauntlet of booby traps to protect his home and outsmart the thieves. The film mixes slapstick set pieces with genuine warmth: tense, laugh-out-loud encounters as Harry and Marv stumble through Kevin’s traps; quieter moments showing Kevin’s growing independence and missing his family; and a moving subplot of his mother, Kate (Catherine O’Hara), desperately trying to get back to him. It’s set against a festive, snowy Chicago neighborhood and filled with memorable gags and one-liners that have made it a holiday classic. What you’ll experience: gleeful physical comedy and inventive prank sequences that generate big laughs and gasps, a sweet emotional core about family and belonging, and a cozy Christmas atmosphere. Home Alone is both silly and sincere — a film that entertains kids and adults alike with its mix of mischief, suspense, and holiday heart.
