I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)

I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) is a slow-burning, unsettling drama-thriller written and directed by Charlie Kaufman and adapted from Iain Reid's novel. The film follows a young woman (Jessie Buckley) who, despite serious doubts about their relationship, accompanies her new boyfriend Jake (Jesse Plemons) to his parents’ isolated farm. Trapped by a snowstorm and confronted by Jake’s enigmatic mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), what begins as an awkward visit dissolves into a disorienting, dreamlike examination of memory, identity, regret and the nature of reality. Watching the film is a psychological, often claustrophobic experience: expect long, intimate conversations, eerie shifts in tone and timeline, and moments that blur the line between internal monologue and external events. The atmosphere is melancholic and cerebral rather than action-driven — haunting performances, striking visuals, and Kaufman’s signature philosophical surrealism combine to make a contemplative, emotionally fraught journey that leaves many questions open and lingers long after the credits.
