Planet Terror (2007)

Planet Terror is a pulpy, high-energy zombie actioner about a small Texas town thrown into chaos after an experimental bio-weapon is released. As the gas mutates people into ravenous, flesh-eating “sickos,” an unlikely band of survivors — go-go dancer Cherry Darling, her ex El Wray, the determined Dr. Dakota, Sheriff Hague, and a desperate scientist named Abby — must fight through hordes of infected and a corrupt military cabal to stay alive. Watching the film you’ll get a deliberate grindhouse throwback: over-the-top shootouts, black comedy, lurid practical effects, and moments of body-horror turned cartoonish spectacle (including one of the movie’s signature images — Cherry’s weaponized prosthetic leg). The pace is propulsive and messy in all the right ways, trading subtlety for inventive action set pieces, blood-splattered visual gags, and genre-savvy dialogue. Expect a breathless, guilty-pleasure ride — loud, gory, funny, and relentlessly pulpy. It’s geared toward viewers who enjoy B-movie aesthetics, practical stunt work and effects, and a gleeful mix of horror and action rather than serious drama or realism.
