Schindler's List (1993)

Schindler's List

Schindler's List is a 1993 historical drama based on the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who arrives in Nazi-occupied Kraków seeking profit but gradually risks everything to save more than 1,100 Jews from the Holocaust. As the Nazi campaign of persecution and deportation intensifies, Schindler uses his factory, his connections and a now-famous list of names to protect his Jewish workers — an act that forces him to confront his own motivations and become an unlikely humanitarian. Seeing the film is an intense emotional experience: shot largely in stark black-and-white, it delivers harrowing, unflinching depictions of ghetto life, mass deportations and the cruelty of the occupying forces, balanced by intimate moments of dignity, quiet courage and moral reckoning. The performances are powerful and the direction is spare and uncompromising, leaving viewers with feelings of sorrow, outrage, and ultimately a profound sense of the human capacity for conscience and compassion. Content warning: the movie contains disturbing images of violence and suffering and is emotionally heavy.
