Scream

Scream (1996) — A year after her mother's brutal murder, high-school senior Sidney Prescott finds her quiet California town of Woodsboro pulled back into terror when a masked killer starts stalking and taunting her and her friends. The assailant calls with creepy trivia—most famously asking, "What's your favorite scary movie?"—then turns those phone-game taunts into a lethal, puzzle-like spree that draws suspicion onto Sidney's boyfriend, her family, and the whole community. As the body count rises, a small but memorable team tries to piece together the mystery: Sidney, vulnerable yet resilient; Gale Weathers, an ambitious tabloid reporter hungry for a scoop; and Deputy Dewey Riley, an earnest cop caught between incompetence and bravery. The film unfolds as a whodunit slasher, full of red herrings, surprising turns, and shifting allegiances that keep the audience guessing. Watching Scream you’ll get a fast-paced blend of tense suspense, jump scares, and grisly moments, tempered by sharp, self-aware humor. Director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson deliberately riff on horror-movie conventions, delivering clever meta-commentary about the genre while still delivering genuine shocks and emotional stakes. Expect a smart, stylish thriller that’s equal parts mystery and satire: a suspenseful hunt for a killer, a tense atmosphere that keeps you on edge, and plenty of twisty fun for fans of horror and detective stories alike.
