Shrek 2 (2004)

Shrek 2 picks up right after the original: newlyweds Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon and travel to the Kingdom of Far, Far Away to meet Fiona’s parents. What should be a celebratory visit quickly devolves into comic chaos when King Harold and Queen Lillian discover their daughter married an ogre. Old rivalries and hidden agendas surface as the calculating Fairy Godmother and her son, Prince Charming, conspire to break the couple apart—hiring the swashbuckling Puss in Boots and scheming against Shrek at every turn. Donkey provides nonstop comic relief and heart as he stands by Shrek, while Fiona’s loyalties and the couple’s relationship are tested. Watching Shrek 2, you’ll get bright, inventive animation, a lively pop-infused soundtrack, and a mix of broad slapstick and clever, age-crossing humor. The film balances action set pieces and fairy-tale parody with surprisingly warm, emotional moments about acceptance, identity, and family. It’s a fast-paced, fun family movie that’s as likely to make you laugh out loud as it is to tug at your heartstrings.
