Slither (2006)

Slither (2006) is a darkly comic, gory sci‑fi horror about a small Southern town overrun by an extraterrestrial parasite. After a flaming meteorite crashes in the woods, a writhing alien organism infects local businessman Grant and slowly transforms him into a grotesque, hunger‑driven monstrosity that spawns mind‑controlling slugs. As friends, neighbors and whole households mutate into zombies and mutilated hybrids, Grant’s wife Starla and the town sheriff scramble to stop the infestation before the alien swarm consumes everyone. Watching Slither you’ll get a deliberate blend of creeping suspense and loud, gross-out set pieces: a slow build of unease followed by increasingly chaotic, practical‑effects‑heavy body horror. The film trades equal parts squirm‑inducing creature gore and irreverent, often bawdy humor, so moments of real tension and violence are punctured by dark jokes and campy character beats. Expect messy practical monsters, frantic battles, and a pulp‑movie energy that leans into both horror and satire. If you like 1980s creature features, splatter movies, or horror comedies that don’t take themselves too seriously, Slither delivers a wild, R‑rated ride—funny, revolting, and kinetic. Content warning: graphic gore, body‑horror, strong language and sexual content.
