Split (2016)

Split

Split (2016) is a tense psychological horror-thriller about three teenage girls — Casey, Claire and Marcia — who are kidnapped after a mall outing by Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder who houses 23 distinct personalities. As the girls struggle to survive in his subterranean prison, they try to exploit the weaker, more sympathetic identities while a terrifying new 24th persona — known as “The Beast” — begins to surface and threaten everyone involved. James McAvoy gives a chilling, tour-de-force performance as Kevin’s fractured selves, while the film’s slow-burn direction builds claustrophobic suspense, moral ambiguity, and mounting dread. Watching Split delivers a claustrophobic, edge-of-your-seat experience: creeping unease, sudden shocks, and intense psychological interplay rather than gore. The movie interrogates identity, trauma and survival, forcing viewers to oscillate between sympathy and fear as secrets and extremes emerge in a chilling final act.
