The Disaster Artist (2017)

The Disaster Artist is a biographical comedy‑drama that chronicles the unlikely friendship between aspiring actor Greg Sestero and the eccentric, mysterious Tommy Wiseau. Meeting in a San Francisco acting class in the late 1990s, Greg is drawn to Tommy’s fearless (if bewildering) approach to performance; together they move to Los Angeles to chase Hollywood dreams. After repeated rejections, Tommy decides to write, fund, direct and star in his own movie — The Room — setting off a wildly chaotic, often absurd production that strains their friendship and exposes Tommy’s strange charisma and secretive past. Watching the film you’ll get a behind‑the‑scenes look at how a notorious cult classic was accidentally born: comic, cringe‑worthy set disasters and baffling creative choices sit alongside surprisingly tender, human moments. The tone shifts between broad, dark comedy and genuine pathos, so viewers will laugh, wince, and ultimately feel sympathy for two hopeful outsiders who refuse to give up. It’s a funny, poignant portrait of obsession, artistic delusion and the strange rewards of making something entirely your own.
