The Gentlemen (2019)

The Gentlemen is a fast, stylish crime caper about Mickey Pearson, an American Oxford graduate who built a hugely profitable marijuana empire on the outskirts of London by using the estates of impoverished British aristocrats. When he decides to sell his business and retire, that decision sets off a chain reaction: blackmail, bribery and double-crosses as street thugs, Russian oligarchs, Triad gangsters and sleazy journalists all try to muscle in and steal his domain. What you’ll experience: a sharp, punchy blend of action and dark comedy—witty, rapid-fire dialogue, twisty plotting and sudden bursts of violence. The film layers clever schemes and betrayals with dry British humor and stylish direction, so viewers get both tense, kinetic set pieces and sly character-driven moments. Expect morally ambiguous characters, inventive con games and a satisfying, unpredictable payoff; it’s entertaining, occasionally brutal, and built around sly performances and a confident, fast-moving tone.
