The Goonies (1985)

The Goonies (1985) is a rousing, family-friendly adventure about a tight-knit group of kids from the Goon Docks—Mikey and his older brother Brand, Chunk, Mouth, Data, Andy, and Stef—who discover an old pirate map that could lead them to One-Eyed Willy’s lost treasure. With their homes threatened by development, the friends set off on a race against time through secret passages and a booby-trapped underground maze beneath a run-down restaurant, pursued by the ruthless Fratelli crime family (Mama Fratelli and her sons Jake and Francis). Along the way they rescue and befriend the gentle but powerful Lotney “Sloth” Fratelli, face clever traps and skeleton-filled caverns, and learn the true value of loyalty and courage. Watching The Goonies is an energetic, often hilarious ride—equal parts suspense, slapstick, and heart—rooted in 1980s kid-hero nostalgia. Expect thrilling set pieces, memorable characters, and warm moments of friendship and bravery. If you see this movie, you’ll feel swept up in excitement and wonder, laugh at the kids’ antics, tense at the narrow escapes, and come away with a satisfying, sentimental payoff about sticking together.
