The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons Movie (2007) — Adventure / Animation / Comedy When Homer Simpson’s well-meaning but reckless decision to dump a silo full of pig waste into Lake Springfield undoes the town’s clean-up effort, the Environmental Protection Agency steps in with extreme force. Led by the ruthless Russ Cargill, the EPA encloses Springfield under a massive transparent dome and declares the town a hazard. Branded as fugitives when the townspeople learn Homer is to blame, the Simpsons escape through a sinkhole and flee to Alaska — until family loyalty and Homer’s conscience push them to return and try to save their home. Expect the familiar sharp, anarchic satire of The Simpsons turned up to big-screen scale: rapid-fire jokes, sight gags, pop-culture lampooning, and outrageous set pieces (including Homer’s now-iconic “Spider-Pig” moments). The film blends raucous comedy and action with surprisingly warm family beats — Lisa’s environmental conscience, Marge’s moral center, and Homer’s bumbly but earnest attempt to do the right thing — while skewering politics, media, and corporate/agency overreach. Visually it’s bright and energetic 2D animation at feature length, punctuated by musical cameos and crowd-pleasing fully realized supporting roles. If you watch it, you’ll get laugh-out-loud satire, slapstick and heart, a few memorable musical bits, and a satisfying, crowd-focused finale as Homer fights to save Springfield and his family.
