Drawn Together (2004)

Drawn Together is an adult animated parody that mashes up a variety of classic cartoon styles into a crude, boundary-pushing reality-TV spoof. Eight stereotypical animated characters — a faux superhero (Captain Hero), a naïve fairy-tale princess (Clara), a 1920s-style sex symbol (Toot Braunstein), a soul-singing mystery-solver (Foxxy Love), a foul-mouthed internet pig (Spanky Ham), an obsessive video-game adventurer (Xandir), a deadly anime creature (Ling-Ling), and a hyper whatchamacallit (Wooldoor-Sockbat) — are put together in a Big Brother–style house and filmed as their clashes, hookups, betrayals and absurd antics unfold. Watching Drawn Together is an experience of blunt satire and extreme, often offensive comedy: rapid-fire pop-culture lampooning, exaggerated character-driven gags, gross-out jokes, and pointed send-ups of animation tropes and reality-show conventions. Episodes are episodic and gag-heavy rather than plot-driven, with each installment staging outrageous situations that exploit the differences between the characters’ genres and personalities. The show deliberately pushes social and political boundaries to provoke laughs and reactions while also skewering celebrity culture and the conventions of television. Content note: this is adult-oriented material with strong language, sexual content, nudity implications and crude humor—definitely not for children or viewers seeking family-friendly animation.
