Grimm (2011)

Grimm is a darkly atmospheric supernatural crime drama that follows Portland detective Nick Burkhardt after he discovers he is a descendant of a line of hunters known as Grimm. As Nick begins to see ordinary people briefly shift into hideous, mythological creatures, he learns he has inherited the ability — and the responsibility — to keep the balance between humanity and the hidden world of Wesen. Armed with police training, ancestral Grimm archives and a growing moral compass, Nick must juggle everyday homicide investigations with ever-deepening fairy-tale threats. Watching Grimm you’ll get a blend of procedural crime storytelling and long-form fantasy worldbuilding: many episodes play like tense murder mysteries that escalate into encounters with grotesque, imaginative monsters, while season-long arcs unspool family secrets, hidden societies and larger conspiracies tied to Nick’s legacy. The show mixes suspense and violence (you’ll see eerie “woge” transformations and occasional gore) with quieter character drama — Nick’s relationships with his skeptical partner Hank, his humanizing ally Monroe (a reformed “big bad wolf”–type Wesen who becomes a loyal friend), and his girlfriend Juliette evolve and complicate every case. Tone-wise it balances brooding, fairytale horror with moments of dry humor and heartfelt loyalty. If you like supernatural procedurals that combine creepy creature design, police investigation, mythology-rich lore and ongoing emotional stakes, Grimm delivers a pulpy, immersive ride through a modern city haunted by ancient stories.
