Hemlock Grove (2013)

Hemlock Grove is a dark, gothic horror-drama series set in a small Pennsylvania town where secrets and monstrous forces hide just beneath the surface. It begins with a brutal, unexplained killing that draws suspicion to two very different young men—an outsider with a dangerous secret and the troubled heir of a wealthy family—and quickly unspools into a twisted investigation of family sin, medical experiments, cults, vampires, werewolves and the supernatural. Created for Netflix from Brian McGreevy’s novel, the show blends slow-burn mystery and character drama with lurid, often nightmarish imagery. If you watch Hemlock Grove you’ll experience a tense, atmospheric ride: moody, rain-soaked cinematography; unsettling, sometimes grotesque transformations and gore; morally ambiguous characters whose alliances shift as revelations pile up; and frequent shocks and plot twists that push the story into increasingly surreal territory. It’s heavy on atmosphere and psychological dread as much as on horror set‑pieces, and contains explicit violence, sexuality, and dark themes—best suited to viewers who like their supernatural stories moody, risky, and uncomfortably strange.
