Raising Hope (2010)

Raising Hope

Raising Hope is a warm, offbeat single-camera sitcom about unexpected parenthood and the messy, hilarious family that helps — and sometimes hinders — you along the way. When affable slacker Jimmy Chance becomes a single father after a one-night stand with a woman who is put to death, he suddenly finds himself raising infant Hope with the help of his eccentric, down-to-earth relatives: his well-meaning dad Burt, his outspoken mom Virginia, and his oddly charming, forgetful great-grandmother Maw Maw. Viewers can expect a mix of broad, awkward physical comedy and quieter, heartfelt moments. Episodes play out as a series of domestic misadventures — from job struggles and dating while parenting, to attempts to give Hope a “normal” life despite the family’s many quirks — all delivered with sharp, character-driven humor. The show balances laugh-out-loud absurdity (ridiculous schemes, strange neighbors, and bizarre misunderstandings) with sincere stories about responsibility, love, and what makes a family. Watching Raising Hope, you’ll laugh at the outlandish situations, cringe and root for the well-meaning characters, and come away feeling unexpectedly touched by their growth and loyalty to one another. It’s a compassionate, funny look at parenthood and family that mixes silly gags with real heart.
