Skins (2007)

Skins (2007) is a raw, fast-paced British teen drama that follows successive groups of adolescents as they stumble through sex, drugs, parties, friendship and family while trying to work out who they are. Early series focus on a tight-knit group — charismatic manipulator Tony, lovelorn Sid, complicated Michelle, fragile Cassie, straight-laced Jal, fun-seeking Anwar and ambitious Maxxie — whose messy family lives and lax adult supervision let teenage impulses run wild. Later series shift to a new “generation” centered on the enigmatic Effy (Tony’s younger sister) and her friends: the awkward JJ, reckless Cook, troubled Freddie and the twin pair Emily and Katie with their fraught love stories involving Naomi. If you watch Skins you should expect: - Intense, character-driven stories that swing between dark and darkly funny — love, betrayal, addiction, mental-health crises, sexuality and identity are explored unflinchingly. - A party-fuelled, anarchic tone with often unreliable adults; the teens’ choices drive the drama. - Emotionally powerful performances and memorable, sometimes shocking moments that can be uncomfortable but resonant. - A contemporary soundtrack and stylish, energetic cinematography that emphasize mood and youth culture. - An anthology-like structure: every two series focus on a new core cast, so the show continually refreshes its perspective. Be aware Skins is explicit and provocative — it doesn’t sanitize teenage life. Viewers can expect to be entertained, unsettled and moved by its honest, sometimes brutal depiction of growing up.
